Shorpy Historical Photos
Shorpy Higginbottom was a child coal miner in 1910 Alabama. This blog, named after him, has some of the most arresting images by some of the finest photographers of the early 20th century. These images are taken from the Library of Congress holdings, cleaned up and enhanced, and presented in all of their late 19th century - early 20th century glory. Walker Evans, Ben Shahn, and Dorothea Lange are some of the noted photographers whose work for the WPA is showcased here.
